2020 Rocky Mountain Dental Convention

It’s January, which means it’s time for the 2020 Rocky Mountain Dental Convention (RMDC). This is an annual trip for the staff and me. Last year, I was a little jet-lagged as Carla and I had just returned from a dental mission trip in Fiji and Tarawa Atoll. This year, I was well rested until I caught that bad cold…. The good news is that everyone except Judy A (hygienist) was able to make the trip.

Why We Attend the RMDC

First and foremost, the conference allows us to attend lectures on issues relevant to how we practice dentistry. For example, I was able to attend a lecture on cracked teeth and another on composite fillings. The way we approach these classes is to know that while some information we already know, there’s almost always a nugget of information that makes it worth our time to attend. Staff members attended classes on dry mouth, nutrition, and other valuable topics. Michele spent time on classes that will help her more efficiently manage the front desk. All in all, another valuable conference.

The Dangers of Sugar

Several of us attended the class on nutrition. One key take-away is the growing body of evidence as to the negative health affects of sugar. As dental professionals, we have understood for a long time that sugar is not good for teeth. Our 2018 blog post Limit Sugar in your Diet highlights how sugar can impact dental health. What we are seeing more of, though, is research showing that sugar can have a negative affect on more than just dental health. Our lecturer suggested that the only sweetener he would recommend is Stevia, something Carla and I switched to last year.

New Equipment?

Another important aspect of the RMDC is the chance to see the latest in dental products and equipment. Vendors have information and products for us to see. It’s very possible that you will be seeing a new dental chair or two the next time you visit our office! And, over the next month, we will be switching to a VOIP phone system that integrates with our practice management software. We think this new system will allow us to be even more productive at the front desk.

Our Staff is the Best!

Carla and I have attended conferences in the past where we’ve seen and overheard employees “skipping” classes. I appreciate that our staff is genuinely interested in continuing dental education and they happily attend lectures, anxious to see what new information/technology/techniques can be brought back to the office. This dedication to excellence by everyone in our office directly impacts our ability to provide patients the best dental care possible.  The Rocky Mountain Dental Convention is an important event in our ability to continue to meet the needs of our patients.

Dr. Albers Named a 2018 Top Dentist

Colorado Springs Style Magazine

Colorado Springs Style Top Dentist LogoEach year, Colorado Springs Style Magazine conducts a survey to identify the top dentists in Colorado Springs. The magazine works with the Colorado Springs Dental Society and an independent public relations firm to conduct the survey. Following the survey, they group top dentists into different categories such as general dentists, or dental specialties such as periodontists or orthodontists.  Finally, Colorado Springs Style publishes its 2018 Top Dentist list, which includes a familiar name…

Dr. Albers Named A 2018 Top Dentist in Colorado Springs

Top Dentist Listing for Dr. AlbersOnce again, Colorado Springs Style recognizes Dr. Albers as a top general dentist in its 2018 Top Dentist survey. Dr. Albers spends over 100 hours each year participating in study groups or continuing education classes. He does this because he wants to provide the best dental care possible for his patients. His commitment to improving his dental skills and knowledge is an important part of how he practices dentistry.  For this reason, Dr. Albers appreciates the vote of confidence from his dental peers, and is honored to be included in this list.

Every year, Colorado Springs Style Magazine compiles a list of top dentists in Colorado Springs.  The magazine partners with the Colorado Springs Dental Society and a marketing firm to survey members of the dental society.  Dr. Albers is honored to be recognized as a 2017 Top Dentist, and he appreciates being recognized by his peers for the quality of his dental work.

Providing quality dental care to patients is important to Dr. Albers.  In addition to attending conferences and seminars, he spends many hours each year participating in three different study groups (see Dr. Albers’ philosophy and commitment to excellence).  Suffice it to say that study group participation helps Dr. Albers keep up with the latest techniques in dentistry.  Furthermore, study group members often work together on patients with complex dental problems.  These experiences positively impact the quality of care Dr. Albers provides for his own patients.

How Are Top Dentist Designations Compiled?

Although we’ve touched on the process for selection above, we’ve had people ask how Colorado Springs Style Magazine compiles its list of top dentists. Therefore, we thought we’d go straight to the source regarding the selection process.  The following excerpt describes how the magazine arrives at its designations:

Who conducted the survey?

Colorado Springs Style, working in conjunction with the Colorado Springs Dental Society and an independent public relations and marketing firm, conducted the survey.

Who was surveyed?

All active and licensed Colorado Springs dentists, who are members in good-standing with the Colorado Springs Dental Society, were eligible to participate.

What instructions were they given in order to complete the survey?

Voting was held online from March 1-15, 2017. Dentists who visited the site were instructed to vote by entering up to four names under general family dentistry and one each in all remaining categories. Those nominated reflect the doctors they would refer a friend or family member to, should the need arise.

Did specialists vote solely on their own specialty, and vice-versa for general dentists?

No, all dentists could vote across the board.

2016 ADA Conference

The American Dental Association held its annual meeting in Denver this year. Unfortunately, Carla and I were out of town on a long planned vacation.  However, our wonderful staff represented our office well.

We always learn a lot at dental conferences and make a point of trying to attend those that are close to Colorado Springs.  This year, staff attended lectures on dental procedures and trends.  They also visited tables of dental vendors and saw the latest in dental equipment and supplies.  And, they were fortunate to hear key note speaker Malala Yousafzai, winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. https://www.nobelprize.org/…/laur…/2014/yousafzai-facts.html

These pictures are from the 2016 Chicago Dental Conferences I  attended in February, including the Academy of Operative Dentistry and The American Academy of Restorative Dentistry meetings. These annual meetings, two days each, are filled with lectures, table clinics, and opportunities to visit with dental professionals from across the country and abroad. I participate in two study groups, one made up of local dentists, and one of dentists from several different states. The group shot shows members of the local group who traveled to Chicago. Continuing dental education is important to all of us.
